Told you so…

Erick Bieritz: One of Sean Kingston’s regular producers churns out the latest entry in cottage cheese R&B for the Virgin Islander. His vocal performance is actually decent, but there’s no meat to this track, and the entire RedOne-centered sub-genre of R&B singing over Euro-pop/dance productions is still baffling. Oh, besides Three 6 Mafia collaborating with Tiësto, of course.

Martin Skidmore: I don’t care for his smoothly sing-song Caribbean vocals all that much – they seem rather bland, rather saccharine. The music, by Caribbean R&B go-to guy JR Rotem, is slick enough, but the tinny percussion doesn’t appeal.

Kat Stevens: Is this the first pop single specifically about ABC’s Lost? Iyaz is “trapped up on this island with no way to get home”. Maybe the only record he’s got down in the Dharma Initiative bunker is janet.? I think I would have sampled “That’s The Way Love Goes” for a song about Sawyer jumping out of a helicopter instead.

Alfred Soto: No, no, no, Iyaz. If you use “solo” in a sentence, you don’t need “alone.” Just ask Stevie B and Timmy T when you return their beat box.

Rodney J. Greene: To be honest, I’d greatly prefer the hypothetical So So Def Bass All-Stars remix of “Again” this wishes it were, but in the absence of such a thing, Iyaz’s inferior iteration will do.

John Seroff: Even if this had shown up as a remix on the “Again” maxi-CD in 1993, it would still already have sounded unimaginative, unexciting and bland; when the best part of your new song is referencing your hit, it’s time to be worried. This trend has to be reaching a head, right? I’d appreciate it if everyone could get this vanilla-tune shit out of their system by the summer, please.
