Whoa?

Katherine St Asaph: From the tepid boasts to the beat dropping out for a line that is really not drop-out-worthy, to turning “1-800-273-8255” into a setup for a sex joke, this makes me wash my hair with regret shampoo.

Crystal Leww: The highest compliment that I can pay to Logic is that I laughed out loud when I heard “I ain’t tryna fuck your girl, I’m tryna fuck your momma.”

Thomas Inskeep: See, here’s the thing for me about Logic: I’m not a huge fan, but unlike so many of the Soundcloud legions these days, he actually raps. And he sometimes has bars. Like here. And this track that A.G. and 6ix have produced for him has some bump to it. And I’ve just listened to this seven times in a row and it’s sounded better each time. So that seems like a fair score.

Alfred Soto: I don’t get what His Keanuness has to do with Logic’s track, but I had fun imagining him rapping, “I ain’t tryna fuck your girl/I’m tryna fuck your momma.” Also on the don’t-get list: Logic, although to my ears his flow is a rebuke to the Soundcloud ethos.

Ian Mathers: Perfectly fine brag rap, with the usual assortment of clever/cringe-y lines (which ones are which, well, ymmv) but given the cultural, subcultural, and memetic richness of Keanu Reeves, why the fuck would you name a whole song about him and only bust out one lame Matrix reference? Whole damn song could have been about our finest living actor. Docked a point for criminal lack of imagination there.

Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: This is all Kendrick Lamar’s fault for putting out “HUMBLE.” and inspiring a generation of faux-conscious rappers to go all self-aware trap. At least Logic’s really leaning into the biracial joke thing now, I guess.

Joshua Minsoo Kim: Fortnite, a lazy Matrix reference, self-awareness regarding a propensity for mentioning one’s biracial identity, an unexpected punchline involving his suicide prevention song, Logic saying “I need a hard working woman with respect who will [pay their own bills],” and a beat with a decent synth filigree. Sure.

Edward Okulicz: Ah, lovely Keanu Reeves. That rare guy whose off-the-charts likeability actually does make up for his lack of real talent, bless him (and I do). Logic doesn’t really have an awful lot in common with him, but he’s a good thing to aspire to if you’re a trier who wants to win people over. Logic’s not there yet with me but he’s the best thing about “Keanu Reeves,” because that watery production is horrible and that thing that sounds like a flute, well, Keanu wouldn’t put that on his track.
