Annals in literal music videos…

Jonathan Bogart: It is two thousand and twelve. How much longer are we going to have to put up with this bullshit?
[3]

Anthony Easton: Wasn’t Kurt Cobain martyred to prevent this from happening again?
[1]

Pete Baran: Well if dance music is back, its only fair that there is some corporate grunge for the kids who hate EDM to call “real music.” History is fated to repeat itself after all.

Michaela Drapes: Oh, you guys! This makes me miss having a car so bad! I am itching to throw “Kicking” on a playlist so it comes on the second you hit the city limits and can go 85 on the interstate (God bless Texas!) on a cool night with all the windows down, destination anywhere. I guess I’ll just have to settle for cranking my headphones and riding in the front car of an express train or something.

Brad Shoup: If Torche’s previous album suggested Rush with a copyeditor, first single “Kicking” brings to mind Foo Fighters, heavyweight class. You’ve got the impressionistic wordwork that Grohl abandoned once he got his band and his confidence and his fans, and a beefier, brainier take on riff construction. Plus, “kicking!” is just a triumphant thing to yell, like an order echoed to the submarine captain.

Alfred Soto: Resisting its appeal is like refusing a meatball sub: gross but tasty. Too bad the singer’s as watery as Ragu sauce.
[5]

Iain Mew: The noisy instrumental passages are fantastic, especially the bit at the end where it sounds like someone opening and closing their front door to a force ten gale. I don’t know if it’s a lack of modern rock knowledge but it chiefly reminds me of The Joy Formidable. In this case I can’t really hack the accompanying vocals, but more of the big roar, please.
[6]

Patrick St. Michel: Part of me wishes that this entire song was just the opening riff leading into the word “kicking” followed by more chugging guitar, those three portions just looped for like a minute and a half. The slower portion, though, isn’t bad and is probably a necessary breather. Still, when things pick up again at the end…
