Your periodic reminder that Channing Tatum’s big break was in a Ricky Martin video…

Thomas Inskeep: Two of 2015’s kings of Latin pop music re-team for a dancefloor-scorching single that works in every possible way. Wisin spits fire, because he’s a popstar/rapper who can actually rap (cf. Nicki Minaj), and Ricky Martin sings like he’s having the time of his fucking life. The track is high energy, beat-heavy dance in the purest sense, and it’s superb.

Patrick St. Michel: The global spread of EDM has, in theory, allowed artists from every corner of the world a chance to put their own spin on the format. The general structure might be the same — rise, rise, drop, rise — but plenty of space exists to add some character, whether personal or cultural. Wisin settled for a Ricky Martin cameo over a generic track.

Juana Giaimo: Another collaboration that doesn’t go farther than the “ft.”
[4]

Katherine St Asaph: Ricky Martin taking better to EDM/trap than Enrique before him: who’da thunk it? Wisin keeps the energy pumping, which explains why this sags once he’s done.

Alfred Soto: Martin sings more convincingly than he has in years, but he’s not a convincing singer, immune to rhythm and indifferent to melody, or at best a sucker for a lame one. The Eurodance climaxes cheapen Wisin’s raps too. Yo siento el deseo pero no el amor, vamos a decir.

Anthony Easton: The grinding, sped-up reggaetron beat ends up half way through here, and its insistence has a genre purity that Martin doesn’t quite deliver. It would be nice if Martin capitulated to Wisin’s aesthetic.
[5]

Jonathan Bogart: Bludgeoning joy is still bludgeoning.
