Zayn ft. Partynextdoor – Still Got Time

April 13, 2017

What we’ve learned: there aren’t that many images of Zayn with cake, and what ones there are don’t crop that well.

Crystal Leww: Zcumbag ZAYN teams up with PARTYNEXTDOOR, who himself is always beefing or being rude, for a song about refusing to commit. Part of me wonders how ZAYN can even manage to make this work — dude has been in two serious relationships for over half a decade, pretty much since he was old enough to be dating — but this is surprisingly light and breezy and cute, likely a testament to PND’s songwriting and the production. I much prefer this to Mind of Mine and that slightly terrible Taylor Swift duet, which were both fine, but mostly tried too hard to prove that Zayn has had sex before.

Katherine St Asaph: You either get to use “you’ve still got time to find love, so instead bang me” or “you’re wasting away, better bang me,” not both, and preferably neither. Preferably you’d also ditch the faux-tropical beats, which have not still got time.

Will Adams: So far, Louis is the only Solo Direction I’ve enjoyed, because he didn’t couch his project in stuffy pretense but rather made a disposable, endearing EDM song. “Still Got Time” is refreshing, then, as a disposable dancehall-lite song in which Zayn isn’t trying too hard for once. I did have to dock a point for the strange vocal processing, though; both Zayn and Partynextdoor sound like they’ve been compressed to 64kbps.

Ryo Miyauchi: Zayn picks up more from Partynextdoor than a taste in dancehall-influenced Top 40. He tries on PND’s voice, brash cockiness posed as bashful smoothness. It’s a better look on Zayn than the showboating that plagued “Pillowtalk”, but he emulates his new friend so closely that I can’t tell who’s singing which line.

Alfred Soto: I know Drake’s got creative lawyers, but even they might be stumped by the speed with which this pair of jokesters emulated his mushmouth-over-Percosets approach to singing over a faux scratchy beat on “Passionfruit.”

Thomas Inskeep: We don’t need another Drake, buddy, one’s quite enough.

Micha Cavaseno: Oh, now I get what makes you guys so upset when you hear people badly mirroring Sia.
