You got French rap in my Afrobeats.. no, you got Afrobeats in my French rap…

Iain Mew: The chorus is insistent and the Afrobeats flourishes are a fresh touch even if a little toned down. It’s only the lack of identity in the big Awa Imani stretch in the middle that prevents it coming together to something more than throwaway enjoyability.

Jessica Doyle: “Yes, I know you’ve heard that Kevin Lyttle song a thousand times, but — no, no, listen. No, really! The second singer is a woman, this time! And she says ‘sexy’ a lot! And it’s French!”

Thomas Inskeep: This Moroccan rapper, rapping in French, recently notched a top 3 single in France with the joyous “Chocolat,” featuring a great chorus assist from Awa Imani. The song has a lively little bounce to it, some North African woodwind touches, and keeps up its energy through the entire record. Everything about this is happy, and we need more of that these days.

Alfred Soto: The beats are fresh and the melody’s irresistible, especially when the guitar plays a variant for the outro. A familiar arrangement is the only minus — a familiar dessert.

Ryo Miyauchi: The magnetic attraction in this love-at-first-sight story is one fit for a major romance drama. And with the two so deep in each of their feelings, self-awareness is most likely lost on both when they compare their romance to one straight from a cinema. Like any good soap, they sell this sweet-toothed pop dialog together with a commitment to performance. The glowing beat is just a bonus.

Edward Okulicz: I could listen to the “sho-sho-sho-sho-co-luh” hook of the chorus all day, and this song gives you two singers attacking you with it. I approve of the overkill.
