Alfred Soto: The minimalist hook nods towards “Jack Your Body,” of course, the vertiginous string bit evokes Tricky. As a package, a bit of alright.

Katherine St Asaph: The parallel universe in which this is a neverending JACK-FM ad delights me to no end, if only because it’d mean I’d hear this over and over.

Brad Shoup: It’s cute, y’know… I can’t imagine Ben Westbeech thinks this is a masterful tribute to Chicago or something. If it’s anything, it’s an ode to plugins. You can do anything, plugins!

Patrick St. Michel: C’mon, you can think of something, anything to do besides jack. Try a little variety next time.

Scott Mildenhall: There’s a case to be made that this becoming a top 10 hit in the UK is a solidification of Current Music Trends. It is, ultimately, a novelty single, but novelty singles are often reflective of or responsive to their environment – reggae was popular in 1993, right Paul Merson? — and so you could say that Ben Westbeech’s feminised tones would never have seen the light of day were it not for the success of Disclosure and co. Then again, novelty singles are often completely anomalous — right Terry Venables? — maybe “Jack” could have been a hit at any time since technology could accommodate its production. Whatever, it’s fun.

Anthony Easton: As minimal and formal as a Ryman painting, but 900 per cent sexier, with one of the great beats of the year.
[8]
John Seroff: Simple, short and devastatingly effective with a gleefully batshit video, a 20 Fingers vibe and excellent remix potential. I’d be surprised if this wasn’t everywhere by mid-August.
