Yes, he was obviously named after these…

Will Adams: Vision. Ingenuity. Passion. At Murphy Stone Institute of Technology, we strive to arm our students with the tools they need to succeed in a competitive global marketplace. We know that all it takes is one spark, one defining moment to change your life, and we’re committed to helping you find it. It’s just the way we are. Do you have the spark?

Daniel Montesinos-Donaghy: Afrojack and his B.O.Bootleg glance at the line outside, full of jojo dancers, and craft something that’s nauseous yet utterly predictable. They got it 4 cheap, this is their re-up anthem.

Brad Shoup: Did not expect a Jo Jo Dancer reference. Even hip-hop doesn’t think Jo Jo Dancer offers much in the way of inspiration. Coldplay guitars and lots of self-actualization: it sounds like the posi-pop we deserved at the turn of the century. The burbled “everything’s gonna be all right” bit could’ve come from a Geggy Tah or Books or Mercury Rev record. It could blow your mind on an overnight road trip. Otherwise, it’s working too hard.

Patrick St. Michel: The empty positive platitudes of someone like The Script squished up against Topshop EDM. Not enough molly in Vegas to make this sound inspiring.

Anthony Easton: Well, this is less anemic and slightly less cliched than other attempts to inspire me, and its intentions are kind of modest. I kind of like the democratic ideal of everyone having the spark, but it doesn’t quite explain what the spark is, which annoys me.

Alfred Soto: They’ve got the spark, ignited by a dozen sawtooth synths, a sequencer line pilfered from a hundred late nineties European hits and vocal enthusiasm pilfered from early Bush-era Black Eyed Peas.

Crystal Leww: This formula usually works on me: I love a nice vocal set over a track that builds and explodes. I’m still jamming out to Calvin Harris’s 18 Months and Zedd’s Clarity, and I went on a run earlier this week to “Alive” by Krewella. Still, it works less well when the song’s basically an EDM “Firework”. I prefer these types of jams when they’re about gut-wrenching love, sorry. The combination of the drop and the lyrics meant to turn it into an anthem are just too corny for even me. The whole thing works even less when it feels like it takes a long time to get to the big drop and almost immediately returns to the meandering.

Mallory O’Donnell: Well this comes as a surprise, because I was actually thinking that “tonight” might be getting a bit overrated.

Katherine St Asaph: Huh. I kinda miss Jason Derulo and “Sweet Escape” sync bait. Only kinda, mind you.
